Distribution Planning Advisory Group
Distribution planning is evolving at electric utilities throughout the United States, driven by customer and societal expectations around issues such as clean energy, energy equity and grid flexibility. These changes require a radical shift from traditional distribution planning methods. It’s Avista’s goal to be transparent and collaborative with our customers, regulatory agencies and other stakeholders as we navigate these changes. The Distribution Advisory Planning Group (DPAG) was established as a forum to allow for this collaboration.
Avista is a vertically integrated utility. This means we own and operate the three physical facets of the electric power system: generation, transmission and distribution. The distribution system consists of the poles, wires, transformers, meters and other equipment required to provide our customers with safe, reliable and resilient electric power, and it is the area of focus with this effort.
Avista’s overarching Distribution Planning goals are:
- Develop a transparent, robust, holistic planning process for electric system operations and investment
- Create a long-term plan to ensure we are maximizing operational efficiency and customer value
