Home Energy Audit
A home energy audit is the first step to finding out how your home uses energy. It can help you decide what to fix first.
A home energy audit is like a check-up for your home. They're conducted by certified third-party contractors who come to your house to see where energy is being wasted. They'll give you tips on how to make your home more efficient, comfortable and healthy.
Want to know how your home is using energy?
Step 1: See where your energy is being used with our Energy Manager tool
This tool shows how much energy your appliances and common activities use. Maybe someone in your home takes long showers, you do a lot of laundry, or you have a lot of gaming equipment. Whatever it is, our Energy Manager tool helps you see what’s happening, so you can make changes that fit your needs.
- Idaho and Oregon customers will see the monthly energy usage breakdown of an average home.
- Washington customers with smart meters will see the hourly energy usage in their home. They can also take our quick, two-minute online Home Profile Survey to get more accurate results.
Step 2: Sign up for Avista’s FREE Home Energy Audit
Qualified homeowners and renters can now receive a FREE home energy audit from Avista.
Washington and Idaho customers
To qualify for this program, you must:
- Be an existing Avista customer
- Live in Washington or Idaho
- Live in an existing single family, duplex, triplex or fourplex home
- Own and occupy the home; renters may participate with prior written landlord permission
- Be the Avista account owner for the home receiving the audit
New construction or buildings with more than four units do not qualify for this program. Multifamily homes heated by a shared heating system, or that aren’t separately metered, are ineligible.
Auditors will visually inspect your entire home, from crawl space to attic, including appliances and mechanical systems. This includes a health and safety inspection and an infrared scan to help identify air leaks. With your permission, some energy saving improvements may be installed for you, at no additional cost. These improvements may include the installation of:
- Up to 20 LED light bulbs
- Two (2) water-saving showerheads
- Two (2) low-flow faucet aerators
Upon completion of the audit, you’ll know more about how your home uses and loses energy. You’ll understand how some simple fixes can improve its efficiency and how to approach the implementation of any suggested improvements.
