Cross Bore
What is a cross bore?
A cross bore occurs when a utility line, like a natural gas line, is accidentally drilled through another utility line, such as a sewer line. Avista’s Cross Bore program aims to find and fix these cross bores.
Cross Bore Inspections
- Access points: Technicians locate access points to sewer lines, often called “clean-outs” or manholes.
- Inspection process: A video camera is run from the foundation to the sewer mainline or septic tank. The camera records video and logs GPS points (depth and location) of the sewer lateral line.
- Robot inspection: A robot with lateral launch capabilities inspects side sewers from the main sewer line, gathering similar location and depth information. If cross bores are found, they are scheduled for repair.
