Loggers, watch out for power lines
If a tree falls on a power line, sap and moisture will conduct electricity to the ground. Anyone standing nearby could be injured or killed. The same danger exists if logging equipment comes in contact with a line. Protect yourself and your crew. Let Avista help you harvest timber safely.
Before you harvest timber near power lines, contact the utility that owns the lines well in advance. Look on the power poles for a special tag that lists the company name and number.
Avista and most other utilities will gladly do a site visit to assess the situation and provide a plan to mitigate risks. Options include de-energizing or insulating the lines or even dropping them out of the way. If necessary, we may even send an experienced falling crew to drop the trees for you.
Always set up a line of communication with the appropriate power company ahead of time. Don't wait until you have a dangerous situation on your hands.
