Ashland Natural Gas Restoration Updates
Avista thanks Ashland customers following natural gas outage
Company closes out restoration, focuses on responding to remaining customers
Spokane, Wash. – March 25, 2019, 2:45 p.m.: Avista has completed natural gas restoration in Ashland after the wide-spread outage that occurred on March 19, 2019 impacting more than 4,900 customers.
“We’re grateful for the patience of our customers during this multi-day outage and understand that this situation was challenging and frustrating. We appreciate the kindness you showed our crews as they went door-to-door to relight your natural gas service,” said Dennis Vermillion, President of Avista.
“We’re pleased that we were able to restore service to our customers without any safety incidents, and we acknowledge the role of our customers in accomplishing this. We’re also grateful for the support of regional utilities Northwest Natural and Cascade Natural Gas who provided critical resources and worked tirelessly alongside Avista crews to expedite restoration.”
As the extent of the outage was assessed, Avista called upon additional resources from within the company, sending crews from Washington and Idaho, in addition to the mutual aid crews from other utilities in Oregon and Washington. Crews worked 16 hours each day to restore natural gas service as quickly, efficiently and safely as possible. Overall, nearly 100 service personnel were on the ground in Ashland over the course of the outage to fully restore natural gas service to customers. Additionally, dozens of employees from across Avista supported the restoration efforts, allowing the crews to remain focused on the task at hand.
While Avista has completed the broader restoration efforts, approximately 130 customers remain. The majority of these customers have made contact with Avista and either have crews dispatched to relight today or have coordinated with us for relight at a later date. For those customers who we were unable to gain access to complete the relight of natural gas service and who have not yet contacted Avista, please call us at (800) 227-9187. These customers are our priority, and crews will be working until 11 p.m. tonight and throughout the coming days to complete relights.
Following full natural gas restoration, Avista will continue its investigation and full assessment of the cause of the outage as well as the restoration process to identify potential recommendations or process enhancements that could be implemented in the future.
