Ever feel confused about how Spokane government works or are unsure of how to get involved in your neighborhood? You're not alone!
Recognizing this challenge, the City of Spokane created a new publication making it easier and more fun to learn all about City of Spokane departments and Spokane County resources that help our region thrive.
In April 2025, the City of Spokane Launched The Civic Guide for Neighbors zine. (Zine is short for magazine.)
The timing couldn’t be better as the community celebrates the 25th anniversary of the formation of Spokane’s neighborhood council system. These councils directly collaborate with the city to advocate for change, address community concerns, and receive funding for neighborhood improvements.
The Avista Foundation was honored to support the project through a grant award.
“The Office of Neighborhood Services is grateful for its partnership with Avista. Their support not only made this physical zine possible, but it allowed us the opportunity to collaborate with local artist Madison Merica and achieve our goal of educating the community on how to get involved in the civic process,” said Pollyanne Birge, Office of Neighborhood Services.
The Avista Foundation does not receive funding from utility customers through rates. It's a separate, non-profit organization established by Avista Corporation.
